There are countless adventures and landscapes that enchant and thrill travellers in this extraordinary, arid and desert-like land – seemingly inhospitable – which stretches across endless savannahs and expanses of sand in shades of red as fiery as the flames.

As you leave the modern capital, the landscapes gradually give way to increasingly arid areas, vast lands where little or nothing grows and where animal species have developed the ability to adapt to virtually non-existent vegetation. Etosha National Park and the rocky hills of Damaraland offer the most thrilling wildlife sightings, with a miraculous abundance of ‘desert elephants’, cheetahs, lions, rhinos, antelopes, giraffes and numerous other species populating these surreal landscapes, rich in mineral salts within the vast salt pans.

But the thrill in Namibia is ever-present, from the barren ridges of the Kaokoland massif, where Himba women dye their long hair and skin orange with a mixture of fat, herbs and ochre—the same colour that tints the majestic dunes of the world’s oldest desert— the Namib, which flows directly into the ocean, carving a path through the endless sand dune of Sossusvlei, the petrified acacias and the thermal mist that envelops everything, allowing the beautiful oryx to survive, in one of the world’s most evocative spectacles. A contrast of colours and scenery everywhere, from the ghostly shipwrecks of the Skeleton Coast to the town of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, where the sociable and friendly sea lions rush onto the beach to greet visitors.
