A journey to discover a multifaceted country, steeped in the most authentic spirituality, which takes shape in a multitude of ancestral rituals and initiation dances accompanied by the hypnotic, driving rhythm of traditional instruments.
From the arid savannahs of the north, to the lush forests of the centre, right down to the idyllic beaches of the Atlantic coast, this great nation offers travellers its many faces, reflected in an ethnographic, morphological and landscape diversity unrivalled throughout West Africa.
On a journey that weaves between modernity and tradition, we will be captivated by the vibrant energy of Abidjan, a lively and welcoming cosmopolitan metropolis, and admire the classical architecture of Yamoussoukro, with its imposing basilica. We will venture into the heart of the savannah, through vast cocoa plantations and markets teeming with vendors and goods from every corner of the country. In the villages, we will uncover the secrets of skilled artisans, weavers, blacksmiths and metalworkers, whom we will watch at work as they create their marvellous crafts.
We shall witness the acrobatic dances of the Panther Men among the Senoufo, the movements of the masked dancers on stilts among the Dan, and we will cross vine bridges suspended over the river, until we reach the edge of the sacred forests, where the secrets of the ancestral spirits are kept and the deities manifest themselves through masks—intermediaries between the tangible and the occult, and the absolute protagonists of Ivorian spirituality.
