Algeria’s Roman sites, all UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are every bit as impressive as Libya’s most famous ones. On this itinerary, we’ll explore the splendid buildings of Djemila—“the beautiful one”—the ruins of Timgad, a colony founded by Emperor Trajan in 100 AD, and Lambesi, the ancient home of Legio III Augusta. Along the coast, the archaeological sites of Tipaza and Caesarea, which preserve magnificent mosaic-adorned villas right by the Mediterranean Sea, and Algiers, with its beautiful colonial mansions along the harbor and the lively streets of the Kasbah lined with whitewashed houses.
