A journey back in time between the green Atlas Mountains and the crystal clear Mediterranean coast, in ancient Mauretania and Numidia, discovering two of the most beautiful and interesting Roman provinces in Africa, among archaeological remains of extraordinary beauty, where it is still possible to walk alone among the ruins.
The Roman sites of Algeria, all UNESCO World Heritage Sites, have nothing to envy to the most famous ones in Libya. In this itinerary we will discover the splendid buildings of Djemila ‘the beauty’, the ruins of Timgad, a colony founded by Emperor Trajan in 100 AD, and Lambesi, the former home of Legio III Augusta. On the coast, the archaeological sites of Tipaza and Caesarea, which preserve splendid mosaicated villas close to the waters of the Mediterranean, and Algiers, with its beautiful colonial buildings on the port, the lively streets of Kasbah with whitewashed houses. The trip also includes a visit to the Ibadi pentapolis of Ghardaia, at the gates of the Sahara, which was so loved by Le Corbusier for the harmony of its architecture wedged in the winding streets, home of one of the oldest and most particular Islamic groups in the Muslim world and also two excursions into the Tassili desert starting from Djanet to admire the dunes of Erg Admer, the Essendilene canyon and the rock art site of La Vache Qui Pleure.
