Marrakech, the red city, the “pearl of the South”, for centuries has been considered “the end of the world”, the last outpost before the scorching sands of the Sahara, the exclusive domain of nomadic tribes and ancient routes caravan. But where for many the journey ends, the adventure begins for us!
An expedition from Morocco to Mauritania along the Western Sahara route, a fascinating region historically subject to territorial contention, suspended between the ocean and the desert. A journey that has the flavor of exploration in the lands of the Berbers, the Tuaregs and finally the Mauri, through rocky slopes, caravan cities, desolate stony grounds, soft orange dunes, beautiful lagoons, forgotten colonial outposts, and wild beaches dotted with rocky arches and old wrecks. The point of arrival is Mauritania, a land steeped in charm and history, among ancient caravan cities, green oases, solitary mosques and ancient libraries surrounded by sands.
Day 1 :
Outbound Flight/Marrakech (RAK)
Day 2 :
Marrakech
The mythical “red city”, with its ornate palaces and gardens, and the Djemaa el Fna square, an incredible open-air theater.
Day 3 :
Marrakech/Legizira/Sidi Ifni
The rock arch on Legzira beach and the decadent colonial buildings of Sidi Ifni.
Day 4 :
Sidi Ifni/Tan Tan/Tarfaya
Through the desert landscapes that inspired ‘The Little Prince’, to the Naila Lagoon.
Day 5 :
Tarfaya/Laayoune/Dakhla
Along the Atlantic coasts, meeting fishing villages.
Day 6 :
Dakhla
Relax on the Dakhla Peninsula, before resuming our route to the great Sahara.
Day 7 :
Dakhla/Lagouira/Boulamouar
Crossing the Mauritanian border.
Day 8 :
Boulamouar/Beni Amera
Following the tracks of the longest train in the world, to the imposing monolith of Beni Amera.
Day 9 :
Beni Amera/Atar/Chinguetti
The desert libraries of the holy city of Chinguetti.
Day 10 :
Chinguetti/Ouadane/Chinguetti
The caravan cities of Ouadane, with its stone mosques.
Day 11 :
Chinguetti/Terjit/Nouakchott
The green oasis of Terjit and the Nouakchott fish market.
Day 12 :
Nouakchott (NKC)/Return flight
