In Chad, in the middle of the desert, rises the highest mountain massif in the Sahara, the Tibesti. It is one of the most unknown and surprising faces of the largest desert in the world, which is not only sand, but holds an infinite number of treasures, all waiting to be discovered.
A great myth of Saharan expeditions, the Tibesti is a true miracle shaped by nature over geological eras. Of volcanic origin, its peaks, which reach an altitude of 3,000 metres, are formed by lava flows, basaltic sediments and sandstone eroded by the weather and moulded into canyons, gorges and spires with surreal shapes. But this corner of the Sahara also has other surprises in store, including lush oases, volcanic craters, gigantic ergs and steep slopes dotted with palm groves and small villages with circular huts where the Tebu people have resided for centuries, the only custodians of the secrets of these mountains. An exciting itinerary enriched by a visit to the spectacular environment of Lake Ounianga Kebir, an earthly paradise surrounded by sands.
